The Honolulu Advertiser reports that more details have emerged this week about a class action lawsuit filed by Hawaiian Aerosmith fans claiming the band cancelled a 2007 concert in Maui to opt for a $394,000 settlement from an insurance company, play a larger gig in Chicago and perform at a better-paying private concert at the University of Hawaii.
Aerosmith’s lawyer responded, of course, that the allegations are “completely meritless” and the real reason for the aborted gig was that Steven Tyler had an eye problem. Hey, at least they didn’t claim it was mercury poisoning.
In a strange twist, one of the promoters allegedly warned of a possible lawsuit by disgruntled fans, adding, “Remember in some ways this is a third world country.” Jay Handlin, attorney for Aerosmith, quickly noted that the band does not share this view of the state.
