Remember the good ol’ days when the Web Sheriff would threaten blogs with legal action for posting mp3s of unreleased music? Okay, those days weren’t good or old (talk amongst yourselves), but Sonic Youth’s The Eternal has leaked and the music mercenary is on the case.
“On behalf of Matador Records and Sonic Youth, we would kindly ask you not to post copies of the ‘The Eternal’ on your site,” the Web Sheriff commented on the ironically-named Audible Lawsuits blog. “We do appreciate that you are fans of/are promoting Sonic Youth, but the label and artist would greatly appreciate your co-operation in removing your links to the pirate files in question.”
Aw. It sounds very friendly, but almost too friendly, n’est-ce pas? Like a mob threat, a la “It would be good for your health if you don’t leak this album.” Audible Lawsuits obliged of course and as far as I know, they’re not sleeping with the fishes.
