Universal Music Group has signed a five-year contract to become the sole administrator of Jimi Hendrix’s catalog – outside the U.S., that is – replacing Sony/ATV Music Publishing, who had exclusive administration rights since 1998.
The contract “covers all commercial opportunities, including synchronization licensing for motion pictures, TV, advertising and other media,” reports Yahoo!.
Experience Hendrix, formed by Hendrix’s father and managed by Hendrix’s sister, president and CEO Janie Hendrix, will continue to own publishing rights within the U.S.
