Rappers Snoop Dogg, T.I., and Doug E. Fresh were among many speakers at the Nation of Islam’s Saviours’ Day convention in a suburb of Chicago last weekend. T.I. appeared by video, but Snoop showed up in person, wearing sunglasses, a dark suit and tie, USA Today reports.
Calling himself the “leader of the hip-hop community,” Snoop Dogg said he would always go to Minister Farrakhan for guidance and he would spread information he gathered from the convention with other musicians.
“I’m already in the Nation, that’s why I’m here,” Snoop Dogg told BBC News. “I’m an advocate for peace. I’ve been in the peace movement ever since I’ve been making music. My whole thing is not about trying to push my thing on you. It’s just about the way I live, and I live how I’m supposed to live as far as doing what’s right and representing what’s right. That’s why I was here today.”
