While Amy Winehouse was bumming around the Caribbean island of St. Lucia this winter, she apparently recorded demo tracks for her third album and follow-up to her multi-platinum hit Back To Black. Executives at her label, Island Records, are not happy about the tunes, however, because Winehouse has dropped the soul/pop shtick and has taken up reggae.
“Amy was very productive during her stay in St Lucia,” a source told the Daily Mirror (via Jam!). She wrote a hell of a lot of songs, but the majority of them just aren’t hitting the mark.”
What, not catchy enough? Has her emphysema hurt her singing voice? Not exactly.
“She seems to have ditched her trademark vintage soul sound and is now heavily influenced by reggae,” the source added. “Her bosses don’t think it’s a wise move to change her style so sharply and have told her that.”
Looks like her album will be released on Island Records, but not recorded on an island. It’s a shame. I could totally picture her with dreadlocks.
