When we last heard from Eurythmics’ Dave Stewart he had designed a sex toy that featured lyrics to his newest single and a free download. His next project is a lot less lascivious, however; Stewart has partnered with hit songwriter/producer Glen Ballard to write songs for the musical adaptation of the 1990 Patrick Swayze/Demi Moore/Whoopi Goldberg film Ghost.
Bruce Joel Rubin, the film’s Oscar-winning original screenwriter, is writing the script to the musical as well. “Dave Stewart and Glen Ballard have helped me reshape my words and added brilliant new lyrics of their own,” Rubin told BBC News. “We have become true collaborators. I am thrilled to be working with two of the most celebrated musicians of our time.”
Dave Stewart’s most famous work was co-writing “Sweet Dreams (Are Made of This)” with Annie Lennox, while Glen Ballard’s biggest success was co-writing and producing Alanis Morissette’s 30 times platinum album Jagged Little Pill. Ghost: The Musical plans to open next year.
