Thousands of fans were shocked last week when we reported that J.D. Fortune, the winner of Rock Star: INXS claimed he was broke and homeless after being fired from INXS in a Hong Kong airport. The band’s spokesman, Chris Murphy, has now spoken out over Fortune’s accusation, saying it is completely made up and that the band was getting ready to call him shortly to record a new album.
“Not only are we shocked by the claims, even the place the supposed incident was to have taken place is a mystery to the band,” Murphy told the Daily Telegraph (via Undercover). “What annoys me the most after viewing Fortune’s interview is the bloody slant he makes toward the founding band members. These guys are the nicest people on this planet, they are not the people he portrays.”
Not only does the band claim Fortune was not fired, but they also now say he won’t be coming back to the band as planned. “In fact he was next on my list to call regarding a very big recording project I am putting together for INXS at present,” Murphy added. “I guess I have no reason to call him now.”
At least one person is siding with Fortune: Lukas Rossi, the winner of Rock Star: Supernova. When Rossi heard news that Fortune was in need of a home, he offered up his place in California as a refuge for the fallen singer. Rossi said Fortune’s experiences following the reality show competition resonated with his own post Rock Star problems with drugs and feelings of rejection.
