R. Kelly and R. Blago were both caught on tape: Kelly was allegedly having sex with an underage girl and Rod Blagojevich was allegedly selling President Obama’s former Senate seat. So who do you call when the tape is rolling at just the wrong time?
Avvo reports that Blagojevich, the impeached former governor of Illinois, has hired the same lawyer that helped get R. Kelly acquitted in his underage sex trial to defend him against inevitable corruption indictments. Sam Adam, Jr. and his father have been rigorously defending Blagojevich, calling the former governor’s impeachment “a mockery of the Constitution” and then sending him out to make numerous media appearances.
All the drama surrounding Blagojevich’s scandal is well within his new lawyer’s experience. KDKA reports that the junior Adam defended R. Kelly by pounding his fist, yelling, and whispering to the jury to convince them Kelly was not the man that appeared in incriminating videotapes. “It ain’t him,” Adam whispered. “And if it ain’t him, you can’t convict.” Kelly was found not guilty of all 14 counts in June of last year.
It is yet to be seen if Adam will pursue a similar defense strategy this time around, questioning the validity of R. Blago’s phone recordings, but it’s likely we’ll get some version of Johnny Cochran’s famed “if the glove doesn’t fit, you must acquit” O.J. defense.
