A few months ago, Andrew W.K. released an album of J-pop cover songs that was only available in Japan. The album flew completely under the radar of American music fans for quite a while, but now you can stream the album, One-Shot Game: Covers, on his site.
The album has a different name for its American listeners—Premium Collection: The Japan Covers— and it definitely sounds like J-pop meets “Party Hard.” Andrew W.K. says the album originated when a collection of 30-second ringtones were so popular in Japan, the record label decided to release an album of full-length versions.
“I give this album as my gift to the Japanese people, for all the incredible warmth and kindness they’ve given me over the years,” he writes on his site.
