Stereogum spoke to Annie Hardy, the sole remaining member of Giant Drag, to get an update on the band’s upcoming album and she discussed how what began as a feeling of exhaustion after a tour turned into a severe peristent pain. Eventually, she was diagnosed with fibromyalgia, what Mayo Clinic defines as “a chronic condition characterized by widespread pain in your muscles, ligaments and tendons, as well as fatigue and multiple tender points — places on your body where slight pressure causes pain.”
Hardy told Stereogum, “Basically I’m in dull to gnarly pain all the time, and I’m supposed to be doing physical therapy three times a week but can’t afford it, but it’s not terminal cancer so I try not to bitch about it too much.”
She’s still recording the upcoming EP entitled Swan Song, with recording costs paid in part by fan donations made before going public with her illness.
