We’ve heard many sides of Patti Smith: poet, rock icon, memoirist, all-around inspiration to the next generation of artists, et al. But one side we hadn’t caught until now was Smith as a prohibition-era songstress. Enter the Boardwalk Empire soundtrack, for which Neko Case, the National’s Matt Berninger, and the Godmother of Punk, among others, have turned in renditions of tunes from the early 20th century.
