Last year, PJ Harvey debuted material from Let England Shake on The Andrew Marr Show with an autoharp-backed take on the war-themed set’s title track, performed live in front of then-Prime Minister Gordon Brown. Today — a few tours, plenty of critical praise, and her second Mercury Prize later — Harvey returned to the BBC talk show for a perfect bookend to her recent foray into topical music: “The Last Living Rose,” performed for Britain’s current Prime Minister, David Cameron. Unshaken by the potentially awkward situation, Harvey not only unleashed a great solo version of the tune, but she also worked in a few political points about funding for the arts and the economy before taking the stage.
