{"id":103,"date":"2013-03-18T16:20:39","date_gmt":"2013-03-18T16:20:39","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/twentyfourbit.com\/l\/?p=103"},"modified":"2013-04-03T16:22:27","modified_gmt":"2013-04-03T16:22:27","slug":"video-afghan-whigs-w-usher-at-sxsw","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/twentyfourbit.com\/l\/2013\/03\/video-afghan-whigs-w-usher-at-sxsw\/","title":{"rendered":"Video: Afghan Whigs w\/ Usher at SXSW"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/BSDsf-X3GW4?wmode=transparent&amp;autohide=1&amp;egm=0&amp;hd=1&amp;iv_load_policy=3&amp;modestbranding=1&amp;rel=0&amp;showinfo=0&amp;showsearch=0\" height=\"303\" width=\"539\" allowfullscreen=\"\" frameborder=\"0\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>In addition to new-artist discovery, which is the most important element to behold at SXSW, the festival has another tradition that&#8217;s emerged over the past five years or so: surprise collaborations, often of the unlikely variety. 2013&#8217;s least expected and most oddly rewarding was the reunited alt-rock band Afghan Whigs joined by Usher at Fader Fort.<\/p>\n<p>The full story behind the impromptu team-up may never be told, but Usher himself put it best: &#8220;SXSW is all about having a good time,&#8221; he declared onstage, likely referring to the loosely-knit yet inspired jams to come from the one-off lineup. Collaborative takes included Usher&#8217;s 2012 hit &#8220;Climax,&#8221; Afghan Whigs&#8217; &#8220;Somethin&#8217; Hot,&#8221; &#8220;Runnin&#8221; by and featuring Sinkane, and another Usher tune, &#8220;OMG.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Footage of the full event was caught by a few pro photographers. While Usher doesn&#8217;t join until a quarter into the set, at about 15:45, but the whole show is well-worth a watch after jumping around for highlights.
