Lissie Unveils “The Habit” at SXSW

March 18, 2013

LissieLissie’s follow-up to her excellent debut LP, Catching a Tiger, has been penciled in for arrival this summer, but we won’t have to wait for a tentative date to catch a glimpse of her new tunes. “The Habit,” possibly a cut from the record, was performed alongside other fresh cuts and covers in Austin this week. While we’ve been particularly fond of her cover tunes (Lissie’s roots-rock take on the likes of Kid Cudi, Metallica, and Lady Gaga are among our favorites), there’s no question she’s a talented songwriter in her own right.

This song retains the alt-country vibe we loved on her debut while also offering a confident step forward from a hook-laden, radio-ready perspective. Despite what looks like a hot as hell afternoon climate (per Lissie’s flush-faced performance), the band turned in a remarkably inspired take. Watch some pro-shot footage, thanks to WFUV, of the tune live at SXSW’s Hotel San Jose above.
