The Queen of Rockabilly, Wanda Jackson, returns in December with an homage to Jack White, her 2011 collaborator/noted purveyor of all things old-school rock and blues. Returning the favor for White’s bringing her era back into the picture via a modern tune of his own would be interesting enough, but this track is well worth a spin on its out-of-context merits alone. What was once a Meg White-sung respite amid the White Stripes’ take-no-prisoners Elephant fight, arrives dressed in sultry, lurking gloom. Along with track collaborator Shooter Jennings, Rockin’ Legends Pay Tribute To Jack White is off to an inspired start here, in which a living legend and son of a legend make a fine case for White belonging to the same tradition. Stream it above and pick up the set here, due next week via Cleopatra Records.
