Allysen Callery’s new album features cover art by William Schaff (of the ‘Molina Map’ mentioned this spring) and recordings from the Dirt Floor Studio of Eric Lichter, both of whom hail from the region surrounding her southeast New England hometown. These places circle my own hometown, too — a pleasant surprise given that “Lily of the Valley” arrived with no geography attached, no backstory for the places this cut hints at leaving before settling into “the new house this Spring.” But that’s the point, really, as it’s all about moving on. “Baby, do you want to go / Back where I come from?” she sings in a final, open-ended reprieve. “I am the daughter of Mother’s Nature’s Son.” Watch the Brett Davey-directed clip above.
