Aside from soundtrack collaborations and a single penned for Glen Campbell, we hadn’t heard new Paul Westerberg solo material in years. Today, though, his manager sent “My Road Now” over to the Minnesota-based I Will Dare blog in all its rough, one-take glory. In the vein of many classic Westerberg piano songs — “Androgynous,” “It’s Hard to Wave in Handcuffs,” et al. — the track thrives on those loose ends. There’s even a false start cut from 89.3‘s stream, while his “All right, got through one” gives a glimpse into the basement recording process — perhaps even a hint that more’s to come. Hear it below:
